(16:00) Jazz 88.3 KSDS-FM San Diego On-Air Preview Week of May 29, 2017

  • Upcoming Artist of the Week - Claudio Roditi

    • Born: May 28, 1946, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

    • He came to America in 1970 to study at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. In 1976 he moved to New York City, where he played with Herbie Mann and Charlie Rouse. In the 1980s he worked with Paquito D'Rivera. He is a member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra.[1] In 1995, he received a Grammy Award nomination for "Symphonic Bossa Nova",[2] and another in 2010 for Best Latin Jazz Album for Brazilliance X 4.[3] - Claudio Roditi Wikipedia

    • A superior if sometimes overlooked trumpeter (the Kenny Dorham of the 1990s), Claudio Roditi is a frequently exciting hard bop-oriented player. He came to the U.S. to study at Berklee (1970-1971) and gigged around the Boston area until moving to New York in 1976. Roditi played with Charlie Rouse and Herbie Mann, and most importantly, in the early '80s, he started working regularly with Paquito D'Rivera. The reliable trumpeter has been on many straight-ahead recording sessions, in addition to being a member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nation Orchestra. Roditi recorded as a leader for Green Street (an obscure date in 1984), Uptown, Candid, and Reservoir, among other labels. (Scott Yanow, AllMusic.com)
