Jazz Live will host the legendary reedman Anthony Ortega to the Saville Theatre on Tuesday, May 8th. Ortega is a legendary reedman who has played with many luminaries including Lionel Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, Lalo Schifrin, Gerald Wilson and Quincy Jones to name a few. He will be bringing his ‘Codes’ project with him- Dean Hulett on Bass, Curtis Taylor on Trumpet, Marvin ‘Smitty’ Smith on Drums, Vocalists- Rebecca Jade and Dwight Trible and Professor Furahaa Saba with Spoken Word. Jazz Live will see the return of bassist Luther Hughes to the Saville Theatre TONIGHT but this time it will be with his Cannonball-Coltrane Project. Initially formed as an homage to the 1959 Cannonball Adderley-John Coltrane landmark album, 'The Cannonball Adderley Quintet in Chicago', Luther's group continues to pay tribute to these jazz giants with arrangements and original compositions related to or inspired by Cannonball and/or Coltrane. The concert is for Jazz 88 members only and it is SOLD OUT. The concert broadcast is at 8pm. As always, Thanks to Big Front Door Sandwich Shop for providing food for the Jazz Live artists.
