Jazz 88.3 is proud to support the San Diego International Jewish Film Festival as they present: "It Must Schwing: The Blue Note Story", Thursday, February 7th (7PM) at the Clairemont Reading Cinemas. Now in its 29th year, the festival has become one of the largest and most highly acclaimed Jewish Film Festivals in the country. Today, with more than 17,000 ticket holders, SDJFF is the most widely attended annual Jewish cultural event in San Diego. The 11-day Festival features over 80 screenings of international films at five theatre venues: Reading Cinemas Town Square, Edwards San Marcos 18, Museum of Photographic Arts, Project Bar & Grill and the Garfield Theatre at the JCC. Jazz Live is happening TONIGHT, February 12 and will honor the "PREZ", Lester Young as done by a terrific tenor sax section of Doug Webb, Ralph Moore and Greg Fishman. The rest of the band is stellar as well- Carl Saunders on Trumpet, Henry Soloman on Baritone, Mitch Forman on Piano, Bruce Forman on Guitar, Jeff Littleton on Bass and Dan Schnell on Drums. It tells the story of young New York banker Bobby Child, who is sent to Deadrock, Nevada, to foreclose on a rundown theatre. Jazz 88.3 is proud to partner with Art Power as they present: Bill Frisell: When You Wish Upon A Star, Wednesday, January 23rd at 8PM at Price Center East Ballroom at UCSD. Bill Frisell has seen collaborations with the likes of Elvis Costello, Bono, Paul Simon, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic over the course of his 35-year career. His Grammy-nominated album When You Wish Upon a Star features his arrangements and interpretations of music for film and television. The guitarist will be joined by bassist Thomas Morgan, drummer Rudy Royston, and singer Petra Haden in re-imagining time-honored gems like “When You Wish Upon a Star” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” as well as music from television favorites, including The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Honeymooners. Jazz 88.3's End-of-the-Year 'Gift of Jazz' Holiday Drive was a great success. We welcomed new and re-joining members and our holiday season just got more festive because of it. Jazz 88.3 presents a screening of rare film clips from the West Coast Jazz era THIS FRIDAY NIGHT (Nov. 9th) at 7pm at the Saville Theatre on the campus of San Diego City College. The film will be presented by KSDS General Manager Ken Poston and feature performers such as Shorty Rogers, The Lighthouse All-Stars, Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker as well as the only known footage of the late trumpeter Clifford Brown. Tickets for the events are $10. Students are free to attend (with valid Student ID) and parking is free (beginning at 6p) in Lot 8 (next to Saville Theatre) for the event.
