Jazz 88.3 is celebrating San Diego’s rich jazz heritage with a recreation of the swinging charts Barney Kessel recorded in 1959 of the music from Some Like It Hot! We’re going to present a concert at the Hotel Del, featuring guitar genius Larry Koonse, along with Gene Cipriano – the man who ghosted for Tony Curtis! The full band is as follows: Larry Koonse (guitar), Gene Cipriano (reeds), Carl Saunders (trumpet), Christian Jacob (piano), Darek Oles (bass), Kendell Kay (drums). It’s all happening TONIGHT (7pm start) and all you have to do is make a one-time donation of just $175 – along with the concert, your ticket also includes a spectacular dinner in the ballroom at the Del, overlooking the San Diego Bay, along with a panel discussion! From 6 A.M. Thursday, December 24, through Christmas Day, Friday, December 25 at 8 PM, Jazz 88.3 KSDS presents The Sounds of the Season, a 38-hour celebration highlighted by a reading of the classic "Twas the Night Before Christmas by the late southern California jazz radio personality Chuck Niles. Here's the Playlist.


There will be six opportunities to hear the Niles narrative: 6 A.M., noon, and 6 P.M. December 24, and December 25 at midnight, 6 A.M., and noon. All times are P.S.T. Featured will be holiday music spanning more than 60 years from a wide range of artists and styles, including Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Wynton Marsalis, Banu Gibson, Kenny Burrell, Nat Cole, Duke Ellington, and many others.

Our first Jazz Live of 2016 (TONIGHT) is officially SOLD OUT--and it will no doubt, be a very special one--a Bill Evans tribute and west coast documentary premiere of Time Remembered. An all-star trio (with pianist, John Campbell, bassist, Darek Oles and drummer, Duncan Moore) playing. Even though tonight's concert is SOLD OUT, you can listen to the live broadcast on 88.3fm or via our stream here on the website. If you are attending tonight don't forget to arrive for the documentary. Check out the film (6:30p start) and attend the pre-concert talk with the filmmaker and Bill's son, Evan Evans. In fact, we'll be hosting a tour of Ol Blue Eyes' favorite haunts in the desert, along with a concert and party at his house, located in the heart of beautiful Palm Springs!
