COMING UP: Dorado Schmitt & The Django All-Stars - Tuesday, November 28, 2016 - The series concludes on Tuesday, November 29, with the area debut of Dorado Schmitt & the Django All-Stars. The ebulliently swinging “jazz manouche” sound, created in the 1930s by pioneering Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli, is more pervasive today than ever. And no one has done more to ignite interest in the idiom than dazzling French guitarist and violinist Dorado Schmitt.

Otmaro Ruiz - Jazz Live San Diego - Tuesday, October 13, 2016
In 1989, he moved to Los Angeles, where he completed his master's degree at the California Institute of the Arts. In the meantime, he began playing with percussionist Alex Acuña, appearing on two albums during the early '90s. That association led to countless session gigs and sideman performances over the next decade, both local and otherwise; a versatile player, he was able to work in straight-ahead jazz, Latin jazz, salsa, fusion, and pop/rock contexts.
