Dave Pell passes away at the age of 92 with his March 2017 Jazz Live San Diego concert and interview being his final. Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes stop by Jazz 88.3 before their Athenaeum Jazz Series performance, and Gator By The Bay 2017 let’s the good times roll on Mother’s Day weekend. Summer Jazz Workshop - The 7th Annual Parker Summer Jazz Workshop, in partnership with Jazz 88.3 and San Diego’s House of Blues®, offers middle and high school students an opportunity to study and play music with professional jazz musicians while learning performance skills, improvisation, jazz theory and history. One-week sessions are held at Francis Parker School's Thiemann Music Center, a state-of-the-art facility with dedicated classrooms and practice studios. Here, students grow musically as they learn to express themselves through the art of jazz improvisation. Students give a closing performance at the House of Blues®, one of San Diego's premier concert venues. We welcome beginning, intermediate and advanced students at this hands-on workshop designed to nurture their growth as musicians, technically and creatively. The workshop begins July 10th! UCSD Jazz Camp! Jazz 88.3 is proud to support the 15th Annual UC San Diego Jazz Camp again this year! The camp is being held June 25th-30th. Together with KSDS, UC San Diego Jazz Camp is offering a full-tuition scholarship open to (1) youth and (1) adult. Scholarship does not include room and board. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is May 15th. And, be sure to mention “KSDS” in the application to be considered. Awardees will be selected on May 17th. If you win, you'll be among some of San Diego's former (and very talented) winners, such: Danny Green, Evona Wascinski (also a camp staff member), Matt Smith, Fernando Gomez and Ryan Shaw!
