  • Summer Jazz Workshop - The 7th Annual Parker Summer Jazz Workshop, in partnership with Jazz 88.3 and San Diego’s House of Blues®, offers middle and high school students an opportunity to study and play music with professional jazz musicians while learning performance skills, improvisation, jazz theory and history. One-week sessions are held at Francis Parker School's Thiemann Music Center, a state-of-the-art facility with dedicated classrooms and practice studios. Here, students grow musically as they learn to express themselves through the art of jazz improvisation. Students give a closing performance at the House of Blues®, one of San Diego's premier concert venues. We welcome beginning, intermediate and advanced students at this hands-on workshop designed to nurture their growth as musicians, technically and creatively. The workshop begins July 10th!   • Announcement: Carlsbad gears up for summer concert series (Kirk Sanderson, Seaside Courier) - The city of Carlsbad’s TGIF Concerts in the Parks begin June 23 at Stagecoach Community Park, located at 3420 Camino de los Coches. The outdoor concert series runs every Friday through Aug. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., at community parks across the city. Venues open to the public at 4 p.m. Admission is free. Music Performers Include:

    • La Jolla Music Society’s 2017/2018 jazz concert series at the Balboa Theatre.

    • October 29, 2017 performance entitled Crosscurrents that teams top musicians from India and the U.S. The lineup includes percussionist Zakir Hussain, former Miles Davis bass great Dave Holland, tenor saxophonist Chris Potter (who leads his own group in concert at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library on June 7), and singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan.

    • March 7, 2018 - Legendary pianist and composer Herbie Hancock, a 14-time Grammy Award-winner, will perform March 7 (2018) as part of the It will be his first concert here since Hancock and fellow jazz keyboard giant Chick Corea’s joint performance at Copley Symphony Hall in early 2015.

    • April 28, 2018 - The series concludes with an April 28 (2018) concert by the Joey Alexander Trio, whose piano-playing leader is 13 and this year earned two Grammy Award nominations.

  • Jazz Live- Darek Oles Presents: A Celebration of John Coltrane - Acclaimed Bassist Darek Oles brings a super group in to the Saville Theatre for our next Jazz Live on Tuesday, July 18th. The night will focus on the music of John Coltrane as that week we recognize the 50th anniversary of the great saxophonist's passing. The band includes Chuck Manning on tenor, Jon Mayer on piano, Larry Koonse on the guitar and Roy McCurdy on drums. It will be a very memorable Jazz Live.
