Gerry Mulligan’s autobiography, as told to KSDS GM Ken Poston, was published in November 2022 by Rowman & Littlefield.
Exciting news: Being Gerry Mulligan: My Life in Music, the late legendary baritone saxophonist's autobiography as told to KSDS General Manager Ken Poston, has been nominated for the Jazz Journalists Association's Book of the Year Award in the Best Biography/Autobiography category.
KSDS GM Ken Poston spent weeks at a time recording interviews with the saxophonist at his home in Darien, CT.
Ken is joined by five other nominees in a highly competitive field, and his collaboration with Mulligan is the only book on the late bari sax great to be so recognized, though two other major biographical works on Mulligan were also published in the last year, including one by Steven A. Cerra, Gerry Mulligan: Writings on a Jazz Original, which earned an honorable mention.
Winners of the 2024 JJA Jazz Awards will be announced later this spring. For more about the process of writing the book and Poston's longtime relationship with Gerry Mulligan, click here.
