Gilbert Castellanos Afro-Cuban Big Band - The Complete Jazz Live Concert Audio

Gilbert Castellanos On Afro-Cuban / Latin Music - The Jazz Live Interview

Before directing the San Diego All-Star Big Band assembled to play the Afro-Cuban music of Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo, Gilbert Castellanos chatted with Jazz Live host Vince Outlaw in the Jazz 88.3 studios. Gilbert talked about putting together the band, the influence of his Dad on the music he grew up with, including many of the classic Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz stars, how he played in one of the first student Afro-Cuban Jazz Bands during his early years in Fresno, the many different ensembles and concepts centered around Latin Jazz that he has led, plus the upcoming Jazz at the Jacobs season at the San Diego Symphony, and a new Gilbert Castellanos recording!

Here's video of the interview...feel free to share!

Ken Poston Tells The Meeting of Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo on Facebook Live

Before the concert broadcast opened, Jazz 88.3 Station Manager and Jazz Authority Ken Poston, after opening with a reminder of our upcoming Fall Membership Campaign, told the Saville Theater audience some background on the music they would be hearing. The video also features the lead-up to the beginning of the concert AND the first tune played by the band. Big props to "Latin Grooves" host Chris Springer for handling most of the filming duties while I got the show started! I repaid him mightily by giving out the old day and time of Latin Grooves before he and the audience reminded me that he is on Friday evenings from 7 to 11 PM PT...HA!
