This Sunday in New Orleans, the Philadelphia Eagles will battle the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX (that’s 59 for those of you who don’t count as the Romans do). It’s the second time in three years that the Eagles and Chiefs will meet on Super Sunday, so, naturally, a rivalry has developed — not just between the teams but between the cities themselves.
Kansas City has Travis (and Taylor). Philadelphia has Jason (and Kylie). KC has BBQ. Philly, the cheesesteak.
It’s Allen Fieldhouse versus The Palestra. Burnt ends and brisket versus soft pretzels and wooder ice. Robert Altman’s Kansas City versus Tom Hanks’s Philadelphia. Kansas City swing versus Philly soul. The Last of the Blue Devils versus Rocky. The Liberty Memorial Tower versus the Liberty Bell.
But here at KSDS, only one thing matters to us: Who’s got the better jazz?
Is it Kansas City’s Carmell Jones… or Philadelphia’s Lee Morgan?
Lester Young and the City of Fountains… or John Coltrane and the City of Brotherly Love?
Basie and Bird… or Philly Joe and DeFrancesco.
