Holly Hofmann's jazz series continues this month at Tio Leo's Restaurant and Lounge at 5302 Napa St. at Morena Blvd. Jazz at Tio Leo's is happening every Sunday evening from 5-7pm and features Southern California's finest jazz musicians in a quiet, spacious setting with full bar and Mexican cuisine.   • Glenn Miller completed "14 Weeks" at the Glen Island Casino in 1939.
  • John Coltrane recorded such classics as "You Leave Me Breathless," "Bass Blues," "Soft Lights And Sweet Music," "Trane'ing In" and "Slow Dance" for Prestige Records in 1957.
  • "Prelude To A Kiss" and "Nice Work If You Can Get It" was recorded in 1955 for Clef Records by Billie Holiday.
  • On a sad note, tenor man Don Byas died on this day in the Netherlands in 1972. He was 59.
  • And, sadly, trumpeter and bandleader Maynard Ferguson died of kidney and liver failure on this day in 2006, in Ventura, California. He was 78.
