Jazz Live began in 1977 as a wild idea of telecom students Scott Harrison and Jackson Ratliff. The original 'live' concerts were intended to inspire and entertain and that mission has remained true to this day. Cut to September 14th, 2004. Jazz Live gets huge, thanks to a grant from Cox Communications and support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. This financial support will continue to help bring major acts to Jazz Live.
Vince Outlaw, host of Jazz Live, says every new era needs a Weblog, so he made one. Click here to see the Jazz Live Weblog.
Jazz 88 Members enjoy FREE admission (plus a guest), while non-members are charged a minimal fee ($10 for most shows), based on availability. If you are a current student, the ticket cost is $5 with valid student ID.
Current Jazz88 members can reserve 2 tickets for free and hold an additional maximum of 2 tickets at will call which they can pay for upon their arrival no later than 7:30P the night of the show. Please call 619-388-3037 to make your reservation. Because seating is festival-style, seats together cannot be guaranteed.
Reserved tickets may be picked up at the KSDS business office (Room C-102) at City College the day before and day of the show between the hours of 8:30AM-4:30PM. Otherwise, they may be picked up at the theater box office beginning at 5:30P the night of the show.
IMPORTANT- ALL RESERVED TICKETS UNCLAIMED BY 7:30 ON THE NIGHT OF THE SHOW WILL BE RELEASED FOR SALE.
For non-members, tickets are available for sale, subject to availability, the day of the show (C-102 at City College) or after 5:30PM at the box office at the Saville Theater. Please call 619-388-3037 for more information regarding availability of tickets. In the event of a sold-out show, you can wait in line for unclaimed tickets. It is 'first come- first served' to acquire these tickets and we will hand out these tickets beginning at 7:30PM. Again, these tickets carry no seat guarantee.
The City College Lyman Saville Theatre faces C Street between 14th and 15th Streets downtown. There is a trolley stop at 12th and C Street. Freeways 5, 163, and 94 all exit within blocks of the theatre. Parking on campus in lots 7 & 8 is free for Jazz Live. Click here for map and directions.
City College offers RTVC 132, where students learn all aspects of producing Jazz Live. Dave Drexler instructs planning, promotion, staging, and more.
